UF Great Schlegel Part Of Hall Of Fame Class

Elfi Schlegel, one of the most decorated gymnasts in the University of Florida history and now one of the sports most recognized television announcers, is part of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Hall of Fame class. The 2013 class will be inducted on Wednesday, June 12 in ceremonies at the 2013 CoSIDA Convention at the Marriott World Center in Orlando.

Missouri Names Welker Head Coach

The University of Missouri announced today that former Michigan assistant coach, Shannon Welker has accepted the position of Head Women's Gymnastics Coach at Mizzou. The St. Louis, Mo., native is the third head coach in Mizzou gymnastics history, and brings a wealth of experience to Columbia after spending five years as an assistant coach under Bev Plocki at the University of Michigan and nine years as the head coach and program director at the St. Louis Gymnastic Center.

UF's Sloan Is Honda Award Recipient

University of Florida freshman and 2013 NCAA all-around champion Bridget Sloan (Pittsboro, Ind.) is this year’s Honda Sports Award recipient for gymnastics, distinguishing her as the nation’s top collegiate female athlete in the sport. The honor was based on the results of national balloting among all NCAA member schools as part of The Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, now in its 37th year.

A year after taking second place, Alabama gymnast Diandra Milliner won the NCAA Vault Championship Sunday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus. Milliner shared the title with LSU’s Rheagan Courville after both women scored 9.925s in front of a six-judge panel.

The two-time defending NCAA Champion Alabama Gymnastics team extended its streak of NCAA Elite 89 Award winners to a perfect four-for-four Thursday night at the 2013 NCAA Championship Banquet held at Sony Studios in Los Angeles. Kim Jacob, the two-time Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was presented with the award that goes to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the final site for each of the NCAA's 89 championships.
