With the advent of the 2010 season, the Ole Miss volleyball team turns to a youthful, but athletic, squad as the Rebels hope to channel that athleticism into a return a third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in the past five seasons. A pair of seniors leads the way with setter Emily Kvitle and middle blocker Miranda Kitts leading the way this fall. Kvitle is the top setter from a year ago with 578 assists on the season.
Kitts, who lead the team with 20 solo blocks a year ago, anchors a deep lineup of middle blockers that also features 2008 All-Freshman team selection Regina Thomas and sophomore Courtney Cunningham. Thomas led the Rebels in blocks last season with 98 and hit a team-leading .264 with 210 kills. Returning to lead the outside hitters is 2009 All-Freshman team selection Whitney Craven, who led all returning players in kills a year ago with 218. Junior Morgan Springer leads the Rebel back row as the starting libero posted a team-best 429 digs in 2010 and averaged almost four digs per set.
Five newcomers join the Rebels in 2010, including three freshmen in Kellie Goss (OH), Kara Morgan (OH) and Brenea White (MB). A pair of transfers also enters the mix with outside hitter Kiley Sherman – who was a part of Baylor’s 14th-ranked recruiting class a year ago – and sophomore setter Amanda Philpot from Georgetown College.
