Six Auburn Swimmers Selected To National Team

AUBURN, Ala. – Six current and former Auburn swimmers have been named to the USA Swimming 2010-11 National team, the USA Swimming office announced Wednesday.

Swimmers were chosen based upon their times in Olympic events at the 2010 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships and the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships. Swimmers with the top six times in each event make the National Team.

“I’m very proud of this group of swimmers for all they’ve accomplished this year,” head coach Brett Hawke said. “They’ve put in a lot of hard work and are deserving of this honor.”

Current Tigers junior Micah Lawrence and senior Adam Klein each earned a spot on the team for their efforts in the breaststroke events this summer. Lawrence was selected in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes after she won the “B” final in the 200 breast in an Auburn-record time of 2:25.19 at the 2010 Pan Pacs. She also finished second in the “B” final of the 100 breast in 1:07.85, another school record, at the international meet.

Klein earned a spot on the team with his performance in the 200 breast events. He was selected after finishing fourth in the 200 breast (2:13.05) at the national meet in early August.

Former swimmers Mark Gangloff, Tyler McGill and Eric Shanteau were also selected to the national team. Gangloff’s performance in the 100 breast earned his a spot after he finished third in the event at the 2010 Pan Pacs. Shanteau was also selected based on his performance in the 100 breast and also in the 200 breast and the 200 IM. McGill’s second-place finish in the 100 fly (51.85) at the Pan Pacs placed him on
    the national team.

Also selected to represent the U.S. was freshman Emily Bos, who earned a spot on the U.S. National Youth Team in the 100 backstroke. Members of this team are males and females 18 and under as of Sept. 1 and are eligible to compete at the 2010 Speedo Short Course Junior National Championships, Dec. 9-11, in Atlanta.
