OMAHA, Neb. - After being held in check against Florida, Vanderbilt scored runs in each of its first three innings on Wednesday as the Commodores eliminated North Carolina from the College World Series with a 5-1 win at TD Ameritrade Park.
Vanderbilt (54-11) scored all five of its runs in the first three innings, which included a pair of home runs by Connor Harrell and Curt Casali. Taylor Hill earned the win for Vanderbilt, going 7.0 innings and allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out four.
With the win, Vanderbilt advances to face Florida at 1 p.m. Friday on ESPN. Vanderbilt will need to beat the Gators twice in order to advance to the CWS championship series.
Vanderbilt's win means the SEC will have three schools left among the final four teams. No league has ever accomplished that feat until this year.
The Commodores dealt North Carolina (51-16) both of its losses in the CWS.
