BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – All eyes may be on Atlanta for the Southeastern Conference Championship Game between No. 1 LSU and No. 12 Georgia this Saturday, but the league’s successes are just as plentiful on the hardwood.

Kentucky is the nation’s top-ranked team in this week’s Associated Press poll. The SEC also has four other teams ranked in the AP Top-25, including No. 10 Florida, No. 12 Alabama, No. 20 Vanderbilt and No. 21 Mississippi State.

This week marks the first time that the SEC has had its teams ranked No. 1 in-season in both men’s basketball and football since Nov. 11-13, 2007, when Florida was rated first in men’s basketball and LSU was top-ranked in football.

Impressively, Kentucky’s No.1 ranking in this week’s AP poll is the earliest that an SEC team has been top ranked in a season since Florida did so on Nov. 6, 2007.

The Wildcats, who rank second in total appearances in the AP college basketball poll at 768, are one of five different teams to have earned No. 1 ratings in men’s basketball since 1992.
