JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – LSU assistant coach Steve Loeswick has accepted the volleyball head coaching position at the University of North Florida Wednesday as announced by Osprey’s Director of Athletics Lee Moon.
“The LSU volleyball family is excited for Steve as he prepares for the next step in his coaching career,” head coach Fran Flory said. “He is a tremendous coach with a strong balance of knowledge between technical and tactical. Along with being a great coach, Steve is an even better person. He’s very loyal and is definitely a player's coach that will do everything possible to make the student-athletes’ experience outstanding. We will definitely miss him at LSU, but we are thrilled for his opportunity at UNF.”
Since joining the Tigers in 2007, Loeswick was a key component as LSU won five consecutive SEC Western Division titles highlighted by the 2009 overall league championship. In-charge of setter training, he coached Sam Dabbs and Brittney Johnson to AVCA All-South Region accolades in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Five different players also eclipsed the 1,000 career kill mark during his tenure.
The Tigers notched several specialty awards which included the 2009 SEC Player of the Year, a pair of SEC Defensive Players of the Year, the 2010 SEC Freshman of the Year, an AVCA All-America First-Team pick and seven AVCA All-America honorees with Loeswick on the staff.
LSU’s overall streak of seven consecutive SEC Western Division titles dating back to the 2005 season is the second longest stretch in SEC history only behind Florida's 14-year run on top of the SEC's Eastern Division from 1995-2008.
The Tigers have garnered a 159-55 record, secured six NCAA Tournament appearances and notched 24 All-SEC selections since 2005.
