    Kentucky Defeats Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Anthony Davis and Doron Lamb scored 14 points apiece, and No. 2 Kentucky finished an uneven performance with a flourish to beat Auburn 68-53 Wednesday night.

The Wildcats (16-1, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) had a 23-6 closing run for their second straight 15-point league win. They didn't take a double-digit lead over the Tigers (10-6, 0-2) until Davis scored on an alley-oop pass from Lamb with 1:31 left.

Kentucky has won the last 13 meetings and 27 of 28 against the Tigers.

But a team coached by John Calipari protege Tony Barbee held the Wildcats to 40.4 percent (23 of 57) shooting. Auburn held its own with a formidable frontcourt, outrebounding Kentucky 35-29.

Marquis Teague and Terrence Jones each had 12 points for the Wildcats.

Rob Chubb led Auburn with 14 points and eight rebounds, but missed all three of his shots in the second half.

    Mississippi beats Arkansas 71-63

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- Murphy Holloway scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in his first game back from a sprained ankle and Mississippi beat Arkansas 71-63 on Wednesday night.

Ole Miss (11-5, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) won for just the second time in six games, coming up with a much-needed victory after a blowout loss to LSU in its league opener.

Nick Williams added 18 points as the Rebels won the rebounding battle 48-26 and shot 50 percent from the field. Ole Miss led by as many as 13 points in the second half.

The loss snapped the Razorbacks' seven-game winning streak. Arkansas (12-4, 1-1) was led by Marvell Waithe's 15 points.

The 6-foot-7 Holloway missed the past three games because of the ankle injury. Ole Miss lost two of those three games.

Releford, Alabama cruise past LSU 69-53

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Trevor Releford scored a season-high 20 points and Tony Mitchell had 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead Alabama to a 69-53 Southeastern Conference win over LSU on Wednesday night.

Releford was 9 of 11 from the field for the Crimson Tide (13-3, 2-0) .

JaMychal Green, who had been out with a shoulder injury since Dec. 17, scored nine points in his 103rd start for Alabama.

Unlike its football counterparts, who were shut out by Alabama in the BCS Championship game Monday night, LSU (11-5, 1-1) opened with a 9-0 run. It was just the fifth run of 8-0 or larger the Crimson Tide has surrendered this season.

Alabama closed the first half with a 15-3 spurt to lead 31-19.

After the Tigers got within eight points early in the second half, Alabama used an 18-5 run to take control for good.

Andre Stringer scored 13 to lead LSU.
