BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Eight Southeastern Conference student-athletes were among the 104 women named 2011 Division I Cross Country All-Academic honorees by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the New Orleans-based organization announced Thursday.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the NCAA region’s top 15 (or top 10 percent) in 2011.
SEC athletes earning the recognition included Arkansas’ Kaitlin Flattman – the 2011 SEC Freshman of the Year, Kristen Gillespie – the 2011 SEC Athlete of the Year, and Dominique Scott; as well as SEC team champion Vanderbilt’s Liz Anderson, Louise Hannallah, Alexa Rogers and Jordan White, and Ole Miss' Katie Breathitt.
Vanderbilt tied for the second-most such honors of any institution this season with four recipients.
The USTFCCCA will release its men’s individual All-Academic team on Friday morning.
