CONWAY, Ark.- Trailing 4-2 with two on and two out in the top of the seventh, sophomore Londen Ladner took Central Arkansas starting pitcher Kelsie Armstrong’s second offering deep over the wall in center field for a three-run home run that gave Ole Miss a 5-4 lead headed to the bottom of the frame. However, Tiffany Roby’s two-run double in the bottom of the inning gave Central Arkansas the 6-5 win over the Rebels.
Down to Ole Miss' (8-7) last at-bat, shortstop Allison Brown was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the seventh and moved to second after second baseman Corrine Doornberg reached on a bunt single. After an Amanda Hutcheson fly out, RT Cantillo moved both runners into scoring position on a ground out to set up Ladner's blast. Ladner went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and a career-high four RBI.
UCA mounted the comeback in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with one out on a walk, a single and a catcher's interference. Third baseman Tiffany Roby then knocked a double to the wall in right center that plated two runs and gave the Bears the win.
Central Arkansas took a 2-0 lead in the second off a Roby two-run home run to left that scored Nicole Beals, who had singled through the left side of the infield the at-bat before Roby's long ball. The Bears threatened again in the third after Lissa Avitia doubled off the wall in center with two down, but Doornberg gunned Melanie Bryant at home trying to score from first on the relay throw from center fielder RT Cantillo.
Ole Miss scratched across a run in the fourth when Ladner walked and was pinch ran for by Jayla Hubbard, who then moved to second on a Marina Parra walk. With two out in the frame, left fielder Brittany Broome laid down a bunt single and an errant throw by Bear third baseman Tiffany Roby allowed Hubbard to score and cut the UCA lead to 2-1.
Ladner added another run in the fifth on a two-out single up the middle that plated Doornberg, who had reached on an infield single to start the frame, and tied the game at two. Doornberg finished the game with three hits and two runs scored.
UCA retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back RBI singles from first baseman Ashley Boswell and Avitia.
Kendall Bruning started for Ole Miss and allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits in 5.0 innings of work. She struck out three and walked one. Erinn Jayjohn (1-3) suffered the loss after entering in relief in the sixth and giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits in 1.1 innings.
Ole Miss will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. tomorrow for the start of Southeastern Conference action against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Rebels and the Lady `Backs will play a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Bogle Park. Both games will be televised by Cox Sports.
