OKLAHOMA CITY – The second seed Alabama softball team dropped the first game of the Women’s College World Series championship finals to number four seed Oklahoma by the score of 4-1, Monday night at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. The loss is the first of the postseason for the Tide and moves its overall record to 58-8.
USA Softball Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts (37-7) allowed one run on five hits while striking out 12. The Sooners (54-8) outhit the Tide, 11-5. Alabama sophomore pitcher Jackie Traina (40-3) took her first loss since May 4, allowing four runs – two earned - on 11 hits while fanning six. Alabama was paced at the plate by senior Jennifer Fenton’s two hits. Fellow senior Kendall Dawson tallied the lone Alabama RBI. Game two of the championship series is set for June 5, at 7 p.m. The game will air on ESPN2.
