ATLANTA, Ga. - Tyler Bray passed for 332 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Tennessee downed N.C. State 35-21 in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic at the Georgia Dome on Friday evening.
The Volunteers (1-0) exploded for 22 points in the first quarter, beginning with a 41-yard touchdown pass from Bray to Cordarrell Patterson, making it 6-0. N.C. State answered with a two-yard touchdown run by Tony Creecy to take a 7-6 lead.
Tennessee then scored three times in the last 1:07 of the period. Bray hit Zach Rogers with a 72-yard scoring pass, the Vol defense recorded a safety to make it 15-7, and Patterson scored again, this time on a 67-yard rush, making it 22-7.
Patterson, playing in his first game at Tennessee, caught six passes for 93 yards, and added 72 yards on a pair of carries.
