EVANSTON, Ill. – Vanderbilt, which was coming off a close loss at the hands of South Carolina, travelled to face a Northwestern team coming off a narrow victory over Syracuse. The Wildcats were able to pull out another close one against the Commordores on Saturday night, riding the legs of Venric Mark to the 23-13 win.
Mark had a big night on the ground for Northwestern (2-0), amassing 128 yards on 23 carries while reaching the end zone once. The junior tailback needed to play well for the Wildcats to win, as the Vandy defense limited Northwestern’s quarterbacking duo of Trevor Siemian and Kain Colter to just 133 combined yards through the air.
Jordan Rodgers led the Commodores in passing (217 yards) and rushing (59 yards), but it was not enough to get Vanderbilt (0-2) its first win of the season on the road.
Vanderbilt will return home to Nashville next week to face Presbyterian.
