ATHENS, Ga. – After a competitive first half, the No. 7 Georgia Bulldogs showed their superiority over Florida Atlantic in the second half to pull away and win by a final score of 56-20. The Dawgs threw down an incredible 713 yards of total offense in the victory, which included 342 yards passing from Aaron Murray.
UGA (3-0) had two rookie running backs hit the 100-yard mark on the ground against the Owls. Freshmen Todd Gurley (111 yards on 10 carries) and Keith Marshall (104 yards on 10 carries) each found the end zone once and averaged over 10 yards per carry, respectively.
The Owls made things interesting in the early going, trading touchdowns with Georgia and tying the game at 14 apiece at the 12-minute mark of the second quarter. The Dawgs ended the half on a high note, however, thanks to two Murray touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) in the final six minutes.
Georgia hung 21 on the Owls in the third period, and the rout was on from there.
Michael Bennett led the Bulldogs in receiving with 110 yards to go along with one score, and the UGA defense forced FAU into two turnovers on the night.
