NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Ole Miss Rebels rebounded from last week’s loss to Texas in a big way on Saturday afternoon, downing Tulane 39-0 on the road. Quarterback Bo Wallace had been the driving force of the Rebels’ offense in recent weeks, but running back Jeff Scott carried the load in New Orleans with two rushing touchdowns to go along with 62 yards.
The rout was on early in this contest, as Ole Miss (3-1) jumped out in front of the Green Wave with a 26-point first quarter. After building the lead, the Rebels used their running game to put Tulane away, using nine different runners to pile up 304 rushing yards on the afternoon.
The Ole Miss defense forced three turnovers in the shutout, all coming on interceptions of Tulane (0-3) quarterback Devin Powell. Powell was limited to just 145 yards through the air and completed just 53 percent of his passes for the game. Even more impressive was the Rebels’ performance against the run, where they held the Green Wave to just 14 rushing yards.
Barry Brunetti also had a solid day running the football for Ole Miss, picking up 67 yards on 13 carries to lead the Rebels in that department.
