STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State welcomed South Alabama to Starkville on Saturday night, and the Bulldogs were not kind to their guests. MSU followed the lead of running back LaDarius Perkins, and the Bulldogs handed the Jaguars a 30-10 loss.
Perkins scored the game’s first touchdown early in the second quarter on a 44-yard run, and he rounded out the evening with 69 yards on 11 carries to lead Mississippi State (4-0, 1-0 SEC) in rushing. Dak Prescott and Tyler Russell also found the end zone on the ground for the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-0 on the year with the win.
Jaguars quarterback C.J. Bennett had some success against the MSU defense, but he was picked off once and the Bulldogs recorded another interception from Ross Metheny. The key quarter for MSU was the second, when they scored 20 unanswered points to take a big lead into half and give the defense a cushion to work with in the second half.
