OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The No. 6 Auburn men’s golf team tied for sixth place at the Olympia Fields Invitational after shooting a 35-over 875 for the tournament held at the Olympia Fields Country Club.
No. 8 Arkansas won the tournament at 14-over, followed by No. 12 Florida (+27), No. 16 Florida State (+29), No. 21 Duke (+33) and No. 11 Stanford (+33). Stanford’s Patrick Rodgers won the individual title at 3-under par.
"We didn't play well today," said Clinard. "It was very windy conditions, but everyone had to play in it. We need to learn from this. We will get better."
Senior Michael Hebert led the way for the Tigers, finishing in 11th at 5-over par. Hebert, who leads the Tigers in scoring, birdied No. 2, but bogeyed on Nos. 5 and 9. On the back-9, Hebert bogeyed Nos. 15 and 16, before closing out the round with a birdie on the par-5 18.
All-American senior Dominic Bozzelli posted his second top-15 finish of the season, tying for 12th place at 6-over. Bozzelli started the round off with a birdie on the par-4 No. 1 but bogeyed on Nos. 6 and 7 before a double bogey on No. 8. After making the turn, Bozzelli birdied the 500-yard par-4 No. 10 to move to 2-over but bogeyed 16 and 17 to finish the round at 4-over.
All-SEC sophomore Michael Johnson tied for 32nd after shooting an 8-over 78 on Tuesday. Redshirt freshman Jake Mondy tied for 52nd at 18-over while Dan Stringfellow tied for 68th at 26-over.
The Tigers return to action on October 15-16 for the Jerry Pate Invitational held at the Old Overton Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala.
