BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a week that saw a lot of movement in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings, five Southeastern Conference teams are ranked among the nation’s top-30 according to the latest edition, released on Tuesday by the New Orleans-based organization.
Wisconsin remains the nation’s top men’s team, followed by Oklahoma State (No. 2) and BYU (No. 3), Oklahoma (No. 4), Iona (T-No. 5) and Portland (T-No. 5) round out the national men’s top-five. Arkansas is the highest rated SEC men’s team this week, checking in at No. 19. Georgia is tied for 24th nationally, while Missouri breaks into the men’s poll at No. 30. Fellow SEC teams Florida and Texas A&M also are receiving votes on the men’s side.
Florida State moves into the top spot on the women’s side for the first time since the final regular-season poll of the 2011 campaign. The Seminoles are followed by Arizona (No. 2) and Washington (No. 3). Oregon (No. 4) and Iowa State (No. 5) round out the women’s top-five. Arkansas (No. 11) and Vanderbilt (No. 12) are the two ranked SEC teams on the women’s side. Fellow SEC teams Florida and Kentucky also are receiving votes in the women’s national rankings.
As a result of a light weekend of competition in DI this upcoming weekend, there will not be a national poll released next Tuesday. The next poll will be released on Tuesday, October 16.
The 2012 SEC Cross Country Championships are scheduled to take place Friday, Oct. 26 in Nashville, Tenn.
