    W. Golf. No. 8 Women's Golf Holds On To Tie For Third At Liz Murphey Fall Preview

    ATHENS, Ga. - The No. 8 Auburn women's golf team finished the Liz Murphey Fall Preview tied for third place, carding a 19-over 883 for the tournament. Junior Marta Sanz lead the team for the third day in a row, finishing tied for third overall with a 1-under 215.

    Hosted by Georgia, the 41st annual Liz Murphey Fall Preview was a 54-hole tournament played at the par-72, 6,335 Univeristy of Georgia Golf Course. The three-day tournament featured 14 teams ranked in the GolfWorld/WGCA top 25 rankings.

    "We had a good tournament this weekend and it was good to see us play against this type of competition," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "As a team, Sunday was not as good a day as we had hoped for, but we will have to improve and get better."

    Sanz finished tied for third with rounds of 71-69-75--215, finishing at 1-under to earn her first top-three finish of the season. Sophomore Victoria Trapani also carded a 75 Sunday, finishing the tournament tied for 23rd with a 5-over 221.

    Senior Carlie Yadloczky notched a top-30 finish as well, shooting a 79 in the final round to tie for 30th with a 7-over 223.

    Junior Diana Fernandez carded the low round of the day for Auburn, notching a 74 to move into an 8-over 224 to tie for 34th. Sophomore Nicole Quinn rounded out the lineup with an 83 on Sunday, finishing the tournament in 87th with a 241.

    North Carolina ended the tournament in first place, finishing at 12-over 876. Alabama finished in second place after carding a 16-over 880, while Auburn and Southern California tied for third with 19-over 883s. Georgia placed fifth, carding a 23-over 887.

    Individually Texas A&M's Mary Michael Maggio finished first with a 3-under 213, and North Carolina's Casey Grice carded a 2-under 214 to finish in second place. Sanz tied with Virginia's Brittany Altomare in third place, carding 1-under 215s. There was a five-way tie for fifth among Denver's Tonje Daffinrud Duke's Lindy Duncan, LSU's Lindsay Gahm, Southern California's Sophia Popov and Vanderbilt's Lauren Stratton at even-par 216s.

    "We had a lot of good things happen this week and we need to build on that," said Evans. "We are eager to get back out on the course and compete this week."

    The Tigers return to play this Friday, Oct. 12, at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
