AUBURN - The No. 8 Auburn women's golf team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., this weekend for the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, beginning play on Friday, Oct. 12. For the Tigers, it is the second of three tournaments within a four-week span.
Hosted by the University of North Carolina, the Tar Heel Invitational is a 54-hole tournament played at the UNC Finley Golf Course. The par 72 course will play at 6,285 yards for the tournament.
The field of 18 teams features seven teams currently in the GolfWorld/WGCA top 25 rankings. Auburn will play against No. 1 Duke, No. 2 Florida, No. 11 Virginia, No. 16 Michigan State, No. 17 North Carolina State and No. 22 North Carolina.
"We like this golf tournament and like this golf course, so we're ready to get there," said Auburn head coach Kim Evans. "Playing last week in Athens helped prepare us for this next week."
Other teams competing are Arkansas, Baylor, Central Florida, Colorado, Kentucky, LSU, Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Wake Forest.
In the lineup for the Tigers are Marta Sanz, Diana Fernandez, Carlie Yadloczky, Victoria Trapani and freshman Alex Harrell, who is playing in her first career tournament.
With only two full days between tournaments, Auburn had had a quick turnaround, but Evans feels the team is still prepared to play.
"We have a strong team, and I feel good about it," said Evans. "We're going to try to keep them rested these next couple of days, and we're just going to play the best we can."
Tee times will begin at 7:51 a.m. CT, Friday off the Nos. 1 and 10 tees at the Finley Golf Course. Auburn will tee off No. 10 from 8 - 8:36 a.m. CT, playing alongside Louisville and Michigan State. Live stats will be posted at www.golfstat.com
