NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Vanderbilt running back Zac Stacy rushed for 169 yards and a touchdown on Saturday afternoon and the Commodores (3-4, 2-3 SEC) picked up a 17-13 win over the Auburn Tigers. Vandy rushed for 209 yards as a team and limited the Tigers (1-6, 0-5) to 212 total yards in the victory.
Wesley Tate opened the game with a rushing touchdown for the Commodores that Auburn followed up with a 10-0 run highlighted by a Tre Mason score on the ground. The two teams were tied at halftime, and Stacy accounted for the only score of the second half with a two-yard plunge into the end zone in the third quarter.
Vanderbilt overcame three turnovers and five penalties in the win, and was unable to force any turnovers by the Tigers. Auburn ran for over 100 yards on the game, but the Vandy defense was stout against the pass, only allowing the Tigers to pick up 109 yards through the air. Vanderbilt held Auburn to 3.6 yards per play on 58 total snaps.
Vandy will take a break from conference play next week when they welcome Massachusetts, and Auburn will host Texas A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
