STARKVILLE, Miss. – Tyler Russell and LaDarius Perkins had big games for Mississippi State and the Bulldogs took care of business in front of their home crowd to earn a 45-3 win over Middle Tennessee State.
Mississippi State (7-0, 3-0 SEC) was paced on the ground by Perkins, who racked up 125 yards and a touchdown while Russell tossed three touchdowns through the air. Russell did not put up eye-popping numbers from a yardage standpoint, but he completed 17 of his 21 passes and demonstrated incredible efficiency with 9.1 yards per attempt.
As a team, MSU ran for 231 yards on the ground and played turnover free football. Despite running 14 more plays and winning the battle of time of possession, MTSU was outgained by 140 yards by the Bulldogs and committed three turnovers.
Chris Smith had a solid game on the outside for MSU, snagging two touchdown receptions and 66 yards on seven total catches. Robert Johnson also came up with a touchdown grab for the Bulldogs.
