AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's tennis team will continue the fall portion of the season this weekend as six Auburn individuals will compete in the Crimson Tide Fall Championships, which run Friday-Sunday in Tuscaloosa.
A total of 12 teams will compete across four singles flights and four doubles flights in the three-day event, most of which will take place at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. In addition to the Tigers and the host Crimson Tide, the tournament will feature individuals from Furman, Jackson State, Middle Tennessee State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Tennessee Tech, Tulane, UAB and West Alabama.
Auburn will be represented by seniors Andreas Mies, Lucas Lopasso and Michael Wardell, junior Dennis Lengsfeld and sophomores Lukas Ollert and Lucian Gheorghe.
Play begins at 9 a.m. Friday with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles. Mies and Ollert will team up in the first flight of doubles and face UAB's team of Chris Helliar and David Zimmerman. In flight two, Lopasso and Lengsfeld will face Vasco Valverde and Inaki Belloso of Southern Miss. And in the third flight, Gheorghe and Wardell will team up to take on Blake Gregor and Daniel Leitner of South Alabama.
In singles play, Mies is the top seed in flight one and will face Jose Luque of Jackson State in the first round. Ollert will play in the second flight and will face Anton Ivanov of UWA in his first-round match.
Lopasso will be the top seed in the third flight, and he will begin play against Sven Ivankovic of Furman. Lengsfeld will also play in flight three, facing South Alabama's Gregor in his opening singles match. Flight four will have Wardell taking on UAB's Korhan Ates and Gheorghe facing Takuma Ohashi of Tulane in their opening singles matches.
