
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Six Southeastern Conference cross country teams and 10 additional individuals have been selected to participate in the 2012 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky., it was announced Saturday morning by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Committee.
The SEC men’s participating teams are Arkansas and Georgia, both automatic-qualifiers. SEC women’s teams Arkansas and Vanderbilt earned automatic-qualifying spots on Friday, while Florida and Georgia were chosen as at-large selections.
The men’s individuals chosen to participate include: Jimmy Clark (Florida), James Hodges (Texas A&M), Henry Lelei (Texas A&M), Peter Okwera (Tennessee), Luis Orta (Kentucky), Mark Parrish (Florida) and Max Storms (Missouri). The women’s individuals selected for participation include: Katie Breathitt (Ole Miss), Cally Macumber (Kentucky) and Chelsea Oswald (Kentucky).
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at large.
Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished top-25 in their respective regions.
The University of Louisville will play host to the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17 at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The women’s race is slated for a 12 p.m. ET start, followed by the men’s race at 1:15 p.m. ET.
