Honolulu, Hawaii -- Talk about making a splash in your first tournament.
Russell Henley, who had a dominant career at Georgia, put together a record-setting performance en route to winning the Sony Open, his first on the PGA Tour. Henley became the first player in 10 years to win in his debut as a PGA Tour first timer.
Henley finished with five straight birdies, shooting an incredible 29 on the back nine for an overall 7-under 63. His total 24-under score for the tournament set a record at the Sony Open, adding to his amazing "first" day in Honolulu.
The former Bulldog won the Open by three shots, in the process becoming the first PGA Tour rookie win his debut since 2001, when Garrett Willis captured victory in the Tuscon Open. This win will likely place Henley among the top 50 players in the world.
