
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Fourteen Southeastern Conference track and field programs – seven men’s and seven women’s teams – check in among the nation’s top-25 teams, according to the latest national computer team rankings, issued Tuesday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The SEC leads the nation on both the men’s and women’s sides for most teams ranked in the latest poll.
The SEC boasts the nation’s top-three spots on the men’s side and has placed five teams into the national top-10. Arkansas remains at No. 1, while Texas A&M is No. 2 and three-time defending indoor champion Florida is No. 3. LSU checks in at No. 6 and Auburn is No. 9. Mississippi State (No. 14), which does not compete in the SEC Indoor Championship, and Ole Miss (No. 23) round out the national men’s top-25.
Four SEC women’s teams are ranked among the top-10 nationally as Texas A&M is No. 4, Arkansas checks in at No. 5, LSU is No. 6 and Florida is No. 7. Georgia (No. 16), South Carolina (No. 20) and Auburn (No. 25) also are nationally ranked. Clemson (No. 1), Kansas (No. 2) and Oregon (No. 3) hold the nation’s top spots on the women’s side.
The 2013 SEC Indoor Championships are slated for Feb. 22-24 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
The next USTFCCCA rankings will be released on Jan. 29.
