BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week, a nation-leading 14 Southeastern Conference track and field programs – seven men’s and seven women’s – are among the nation’s top-25 teams, according to the latest Division I National Team Computer Rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday.
The SEC leads the nation on both the men’s and women’s sides with seven teams each ranked among the top 25.
Four SEC men’s teams are ranked in the top-10 nationally. Arkansas remains the top-ranked team after a win at the Razorback Team Invitational this weekend. Three-time defending NCAA Indoor Champion Florida has regained the No. 2 spot from Texas A&M, which now sits at No. 3. Oregon (No. 4) and Arizona State (No. 5) round out the men’s top-five. Other ranked SEC men’s teams include No. 6 LSU, No. 9 Auburn, No. 15 Mississippi State and No. 17 Ole Miss. The Rebels jump from No. 23 last week, under the direction of first-year head coach Brian O’Neal.
On the women’s side, Clemson (No. 1), Kansas (No. 2) and Oregon (No. 3) hold the top-three spots nationally. Arkansas is the highest-rated SEC team, checking in at No. 4, thanks to a couple of national-leading performances this past weekend at the Razorback Team Invitational. LSU checks in at No. 5, while Texas A&M (No. 6) and Florida (No. 7) also are among the top-10. Rounding out the top-25 for the SEC are No. 11 Georgia, No. 21 South Carolina and No. 24 Auburn.
The 2013 SEC Indoor Championships are slated for Feb. 22-24 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
The next USTFCCCA rankings will be released on Feb. 5.
