Georgia's Ryan Invited To Two Events By USA Swimming

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia diver Laura Ryan has been chosen to compete in two premier events by USA Diving, the federation announced on Friday.

Ryan, a junior from Elk River, Minn., will be one of the 10 divers for the United States in the FINA Grand Prix Canada Cup May 2-5 in Quebec. She is slated to participate on 10-meter platform and in synchronized 3-meter with Texas native Meghan Houston. Georgia's Dan Laak will be a member of the United States coaching staff.

Ryan also will be one of the 24 participants in the FINA USA Diving Grand Prix May 9-12 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The FINA USA Diving Grand Prix, the sole stop in the United States on the circuit, is an international competition and draws the top divers from around the world. Ryan is scheduled for 3-meter springboard and synchro 3-meter with Houston.

Ryan recently was named to the Olympic Performance Squad by USA Diving. The Olympic Performance Squad is made up of divers with the skill and potential to advance to the 2016 Games in Brazil. Ryan won gold medals in synchro platform at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in 2010 and 2012 and the AT&T National Championships in 2010 as well as in 3-meter synchro at the 2012 National Championships. She also medaled at the 2011 Winter Nationals and the 2012 USA Diving Grand Prix in synchro events and the 2012 National Championships on 3-meter springboard.

Ryan has Georgia's top efforts this season on both springboards and on platform, with NCAA Zone qualifying scores on all three boards. Ryan boasts the SEC's top score on platform this year and she is the only diver in the league in the top four on each board.

Georgia's teams will return to action Feb. 19-23 at the SEC Championships in College Station, Texas.
