LSU Men's Tennis Sweeps Home Doubleheader

BATON ROUGE – The No. 32 LSU men’s tennis team (11-8) completed a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday in Baton Rouge after defeating New Orleans (8-8), 6-0. Earlier in the afternoon, the Tigers swept No. 61 Tulane 7-0.

“There were some great things that came out of today,” head coach Jeff Brown said. “I think the guys did a good job after basically being exhausted on Sunday coming back to going out and winning a tough match early on against Tulane and then handling their business in the second match. Matches where everybody gets a win are important, especially this time of year when the matches are so tough.”

The match began with singles instead of doubles and the Tigers carried their momentum from their victory over Tulane into the match as they won the first set in all six singles matches.

Harrison Kennedy gave the Tigers their first point of the night with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory on court four over New Orleans’ Hossam Meligy to give LSU a 1-0 lead. Olivier Borsos increased the Tigers’ lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-4 victory on court one over New Orleans’ Rui Silva. The lead was pushed to 3-0 by Boris Arias on court five with his 6-2, 6-2 victory over David Malmgren. The match was clinched by freshman Joe Hill on court six when he defeated Lovro Curcija 6-3, 6-3.

Tam Trinh extended the lead to 5-0 on court three with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Abdelrahman Zaki. The evening was wrapped up on court two when LSU’s No. 82 Chris Simpson defeated  Ricardo Campos 7-6(6), 6-4.

The Tigers have another home match tomorrow, April 3 at 2 p.m. CT against Nicholls State. LSU defeated Nicholls State 7-0 earlier this season.
