Auburn Spring Practice Day 6: The Big Picture

    April 5, 2013

    By Charles Goldberg

AUBURN -- The former offensive coordinator and now-head coach is true to his word when he says he spends his time at practice taking in the "big picture."

Auburn's Gus Malzahn spends no more time with the quarterbacks than any other position, at least he doesn't in the parts of practice open to the media this spring practice. Offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee is charged with developing Kiehl Frazier and Jonathan Wallace. While Lashlee worked with them, Malzahn was with the offensive line, then the defense.

Did somebody say quarterbacks? Here is today's random short passes in one drill:

    Frazier to Corey Grant
    Wallace to Cameron Artis-Payne
    Wallace to Grant
    Frazier to Jaylon Denson
    Wallace to Denson
    Wallace to Payne
    Frazier to Payne
    Frazier to Coates
    Wallace to Coates

•Perhaps 500 coaches were at practice for Auburn's annual two-day high school clinic. They jammed the sidelines and watched individual drills.

•The defense worked on interception returns and how the defense would lead the player with the ball down field. It was a refreshing concept, especially for a team that intercepted only two passes last year.
