Soccer Downs South Alabama, 5-1, In Final Home Spring Exhibition

The Auburn soccer team welcomed South Alabama for what would be the last home game of the Spring Season last Saturday and came out with a 5-1 win. South Alabama came into the game undefeated in the spring season beating some very good teams along the way.

Auburn looked hungry early on pressuring well defensively and finding a good rhythm when in possession. The deadlock was broken in the 12th minute after a great service from Tori Ball off Auburn's first corner of the game. Jordan Miller attacked the ball aggressively and volleyed home the first goal of the day. Auburn added a second goal 10 minutes later after some great ball movement starting in the defensive third. Haley Gerken and Tori Ball combined to play through Alexa Allen who hit a one time finish past the onrushing goalkeeper. Auburn added a third in the 34th minute when Bianca Sierra played a great re-service into the box following a corner. Tori Ball showed great composure in bringing the ball down and controlling it to hit a shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards out to give Auburn 3-0 lead at half time.

South Alabama came out fighting in the second half determined to get back into the game. They scored within the first minute of the half with Alyssa Mayer banging home a Nini Rabsatt-Smith cross. Auburn rallied knowing that the next goal was all important and restored its three goal advantage following another set piece situation in the 57th minute. Tori Ball again served a great corner which Sophie Simantel managed to get on the end of to poke into the net. The final goal of the game came from Bianca Sierra in the 75th minute. Sierra showed great determination to finish another corner from Tori Ball who had her third set piece assist of the game.
