Day Three: Tee Times and Pairings

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Led by sophomore Caleb Sturgeon’s three-under-par 67, the South Carolina Gamecocks posted a four-under-par 276 to take the second-round lead (555) at the 2013 SEC Men’s Golf Championship held at the Sea Island Golf Club Seaside Course.

“We’ve had two great days and battled some weather this morning and we’re excited about tomorrow’s final round,” South Carolina Head Coach Bill McDonald said.  “The Conference championship is just unbelievable because there are so many good teams here.  We’re really fortunate to be leading going into the final round.”

Defending SEC champion Alabama moved into second place (558) by firing the day’s low round of five-under par 275.  First-round leader Auburn is third at 564, followed by Texas A&M at 566 and Georgia at 570.

Sturgeon holds a four-shot lead in his quest for medalist honors with a two-day total of eight-under-par 131 (65-67).  Chad Ramey of Mississippi State, Cory Whitsett of Alabama, and Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas are tied for second at four-under-par 136.

“I played good again today and tried to keep the same mentality by staying patient,” Sturgeon said.  “I hit the ball really good and only missed one fairway.  I putted well again and that was really big for me.  For tomorrow we are going to prepare for the windy conditions.  The team just needs to stay patient and keep doing what we’re doing and hopefully we’ll get a ring and a championship at the end of it.”

For the second consecutive day, 11 student-athletes posted scores under par.  Nineteen of the 70-player field finished even par or better.

The final round of the Championship will begin tomorrow at 7:30 am ET.  Admission is free and open to the public.
