Auburn, Ala. -
Saturday will serve as Senior Day for the Auburn softball team as the Tigers host the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
The doubleheader will close-out the home portion of the Tigers' 2013 schedule. Auburn will close the regular season on the road at Arkansas next weekend. Regardless of the outcome of other SEC games this weekend, the Tigers will go to Fayetteville in contention for a spot in the SEC Tournament.
Auburn is 28-20 overall, while Appalachian State is 27-16. The Tigers will recognize its senior class of Caitlin Jordan, Brooke Lathan, Caitlin Schultze, Baylee Stephens and Liana Wuchte prior to the start of the doubleheader.
"I think our team will be fired up to play well in our seniors' last home game," Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. "This has been an awesome senior class. Liana Wuchte has done the right thing day in and day out. She is our spiritual leader. She has been a wonderful example for our younger players.
"Baylee has been playing and practicing and then going to work as part of her nursing degree. She has been working 12 hours per night and has just been tremendous with her attitude and effort. Brooke hasn't missed a game the last two years. She has come through for us in some big games and has really shown the younger players what playing in the SEC is all about."
Lathan has started every game of her collegiate career, a streak of 221 consecutive games. Lathan started 117 games at Houston University before transferring to Auburn in 2012. Lathan has started 104 consecutive games for the Tigers.
"Caitlin Jordan came in the same time as Brooke," Deese continued. "CJ is a hard-nosed player and is one we will really miss. I can't say enough about Caitlin Schultze. She has been a rock. I'm going to keep video on her for years to come to show other catchers because she does such a good job behind the plate."
Saturday's doubleheader will be carried locally on WEGL 91.1 FM and online, along with live stats, at www.auburntigers.com.
