SEC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (April 29 – May 5)

    SEC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
    Paige Wilson - Georgia
SS  • So. • Chicago, Ill.

Wilson led the team in average in the sweep of No. 8/7 LSU, hitting .750 over two games (6-for-8). She added six RBI’s, four runs, a double and three home runs, including two HRs in the first game of the weekend. The two homers in game one marked the first time in her career that she has hit multiple HRs in a single game. Wilson drove in four runs in Georgia’s come-from-behind win over LSU on Sunday and slugged 2.000 over the weekend with a 2.750 OPS. The wins gave UG its sixth win over a ranked team in the last three weeks and helped seal the fifth spot for the Bulldogs in the SEC Tournament.

    SEC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
    Chelsea Thomas – Missouri
    Sr. • Pleasantville, Iowa

Thomas pitched the 11th complete game no-hitter of her Mizzou career and helped the Tigers to a 2-0 win over No. 4/2 Tennessee on Saturday. She struck out seven over 7.0 innings, issuing three walks and one hit-by-pitch in the win which improved her season record to 20-4. She also picked up her SEC-leading 13th conference pitching victory with the win. The no-hitter against Tennessee was Thomas’ first since blanking Oklahoma State last season (May 11, 2012). Tennessee, as a program, had not been no-hit since the 2002 season.

    SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
    Katie Marks – South Carolina
    P • Katy, Texas

Marks did not allow a run in 8.1 innings of relief against No. 2/3 Florida. She picked up the win in the third game of the series for the second straight weekend, helping the Gamecocks to its first SEC Tournament berth since 2007. Marks fanned four, including the final batter of the game, in 3.2 innings of work in the finale. She is tied for the team lead in strikeouts and leads in strikeouts per seven innings and in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
