LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky sophomore men’s golfer Todd McDaniel advanced to the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links (APL) Championship after winning his qualifier at the Lakeside Golf Course in Lexington on Wednesday after shooting 2-under par in the 36-hole event.
The Manchester, Ky., native won the tournament after shooting a 36-hole score of 142 on the par-72 course.
McDaniel will advance as one of 156 players in the field, which is set to be held at the Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va., July 15-20. The field plays two days of stroke play and will be cut to the top 64. Those 64 golfers continue into match play, playing 18-hole rounds. The championship match is 36 holes.
The APL is staged by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and is open to amateur golfers who are not members of a private club and have a USGA Handicap Index of 4.4 or lower.

After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 64 scorers, who will advance to match play
