KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- A local film crew from RIVR Media and three shining stars from the University of Tennessee have been on campus this week, filming segments for an upcoming commercial that will be shown nationwide in Regal Cinemas in September and on certain Comcast cable channels this fall.
Regal, in conjunction with the Pat Summitt Foundation, has agreed to run a 30-second spot during movie previews in theaters from coast to coast. The ad, featuring Summitt, former Vol and current NFL quarterback Peyton Manning and former Lady Vol and current WNBA player and ESPN analyst Kara Lawson, is slated to hit screens for the month of September. Comcast is on board, as well, to run the commercial on some of its channels.
Lawson, who plays professionally for the Connecticut Sun, flew in on Monday to join Summitt in taping segments in the Lady Vol locker room at Thompson-Boling Arena. Manning, meanwhile, was in Neyland Stadium on Tuesday, reading his lines in front of the camera at the locker room that bears his name. Summitt stopped by to visit and watch the taping.
The objective of the ad is to bring awareness to the fight against Alzheimer’s and seek support for the Pat Summitt Foundation’s drive to find a cure and defeat the disease that forced the NCAA’s all-time winningest coach to retire early as head coach of the Tennessee women’s basketball team.
