    W. Equestrian. Indy Roper Finishes Ninth at NRHA Collegiate Reining Champs

    June 29, 2013

    FINAL DERBY RESULTS

AUBURN, Alabama – Auburn All-American Indy Roper placed ninth at the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Collegiate Reining Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., Saturday afternoon. Roper scored a 139.0 by the two judges, while riding Wunder Bread owned by Torpey Performance Horses.

It was the second-consecutive year Roper represented the Auburn equestrian team at the Championships. Roper was one of 12 riders, and one of only four from the NCEA.

“I wish a couple of maneuvers could have worked out better for Indy, and not pick up an unfortunate penalty in her last collegiate ride,” Auburn head coach Greg Williams said. “But I am still so proud of all that she has done. Indy came to Auburn to bolster one event and left being an All-American in two events and a basket full of Outstanding Player, National and SEC awards. She is and will be a true Auburn success story.”

Roper, competing in both the reining and the horsemanship, helped the Auburn equestrian team to an Overall National Championship at the recent 2013 National Collegiate Equestrian Championships.

NRHA Derby: The NRHA Derby runs for one week each summer in Oklahoma City and showcases the world’s best four-, five- and six-year-old reining horses. Thousands of spectators, exhibitors and horses attend the event each year. The Derby is one of two major events presented by NRHA each year in Oklahoma City and includes two full slates of ancillary reining classes in addition to the aged-event action. The NRHA Derby also hosts the Interscholastic Equestrian Association Western National Finals, United States Equestrian Federation classes and Federation Equestre Internationale classes.
