The Auburn Tigers used big plays to beat Washington State 31-24 on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium, giving new head coach Gus Malzahn a victory in his first game as the Tigers’ head coach.

Tre Mason returned a kickoff 100 yards for a score, and Corey Grant added a 75-yard touchdown scamper for Auburn in the game.

Washington State actually outgained Auburn, 464 to 394, but Auburn’s 295 yards on the ground proved to be a big difference in the contest.

This game was billed as a matchup of two great offensive minds, as Malzahn tangled with Washington State head man Mike Leach.
