    Sep 6, 2013

    First Round Results

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. - After one round of play at the Northern Intercollegiate, junior David Snyder sits in a tie atop the leaderboard thanks to a five-under 67.

As a team, Kentucky posted a two-under 286 in the first round to put them in third place. Houston currently leads after shooting a nine-under 279. Liberty sits in second following a seven-under 281. The teams return to the course for round two Saturday morning at 9 a.m. ET.

"We played solid golf today for a nice start to the event," said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. "It is only the first 18 holes, but we are in a good position going into tomorrow's round."

Playing as an individual, Snyder posted the best round of the day out of all competitors, while the score also proved to be his collegiate-best at UK. The Somerset, Ky., native shot a two-under on the front nine before recording a three-under on the back nine. His eagle on the 17th hole boosted his name up the leaderboard and into the lead.

Senior Stephen Powers sits just a stroke behind Snyder after turning in a scorecard of four-under 68. Powers, who is tied for third, recorded five birdies and had just one bogey in the round.

"I am quite proud of David (Snyder) and Stephen (Powers) for their respective rounds of 67 and 68," Craig said. "It looks like David (Snyder) is making a big statement that I messed up by putting him in the individual spot this weekend. I love to see that kind of moxie."

Rounding out the top 10 for Kentucky was senior Ben Stow, who shot a two-under 70. Stow sits in a tie for sixth-place. The Salisbury, England, native registered three birdies and an eagle on the day.

Junior Will Bishop sits in a tie for 16th after shooting an even-par 72 during the initial round. Bishop finished with five birdies.

Senior Cody Martin and sophomore Harrison Greenberry both shot a first round score of four-over 76. Martin and Greenberry are tied for 52nd.

Following the Northern Intercollegiate, UK will travel to Zionsville, Ind., for the Wolf Run Invitational held Sept. 21-22 at the Wolf Run Golf Club.
