Florida Checks in Second at Disney Cross Country Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. – Led by sophomore Julie Macedo’s third-place individual finish, the Florida’s women’s cross country squad turned in a second-place overall standing (65 points) in the women’s college 5K competition at the Disney Cross Country Classic at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Saturday behind winner Malone University (56 points).

A mere 2.06 seconds separated the first, second and third-place finishers in a particularly tight race, which Macedo led after the mile mark. Freshman Taylor Tubbs scored second for UF, turning in a personal best time (17:41.40) with her fifth-place finish in the field of 200 athletes. Junior Macy Huskey and senior Brittany Koziara crossed the finish line 15th and 16th overall for the Gators, Huskey with a personal-best mark (18:30.15) and Koziara with her best 5K mark as a Gator (18:39.30). First-year Gator Amber Johnson was the fifth scorer for the Orange and Blue in 27th (19:06.10).

Junior transfer Brian Gorwitz, running unattached at the Disney Cross Country Classic, crossed third overall in the men’s 8K field with a personal-best 25:16.61.
