The SEC announced its first men's basketball players of the week for the 2013-2014 season, recognizing outstanding performances on the court from the early season games.
SEC Player of the Week
Kentucky’s Julius Randle, a 6-foot-9, 250-pound freshman forward from Dallas, Texas, was named SEC Player of the Week after averaging 22.5 points, 15 rebounds and two assists in leading the Wildcats to wins over UNC Asheville and Northern Kentucky. His 23-point, 16-rebound effort against UNCA was just two points and one rebound shy of matching UK’s first-game records in both statistical categories. Randle followed his debut with 22 points and 14 rebounds against NKU.
SEC Freshman of the Week
Missouri’s Wes Clark, a 6-foot, 171-pound freshman guard from Detroit, Mich., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after scoring 13 points, grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists without committing a turnover in his collegiate debut against SE Louisiana. He was a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range and finished 5-of-9 from the field. Defensively, he helped hold SELA’s leading scorer to just eight points on 3-of-9 shooting.
