The Southeastern Conference announced its most recent swimming and diving athletes of the week on Tuesday, recognizing outstanding performances in the pool from the last week of action.
SEC FEMALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Melanie Margalis, Georgia
Sr. • Clearwater, Fla.
Margalis won two individual races and was on a victorious relay in Georgia's win over Emory on Friday. She won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.24 and claimed the 200 butterfly in 1:58.84. The senior also swam the second leg of the 400 medley relay that stopped the clock in 3:46.20. Margalis helped the Lady Bulldogs extend their all-sports UGA record to 86 straight victories at home.
SEC FEMALE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Olivia Smoliga, Georgia
In Georgia's win over Emory at Gabrielsen Natatorium, Smoliga won one individual race and was on a victorious relay. She took the 200 backstroke with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:58.75 and swam the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay that finished first in 1:34.11. Smoliga also placed second on the 400 medley relay as she swam the third leg and helped the team finish in 3:46.20.
SEC MALE SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Doug Reynolds, Georgia
Sr. • Loganville, Ga.
Reynolds won two individual races and was on a victorious relay in Georgia's win over Emory at Gabrielsen Natatorium. He claimed the 100 freestyle in 45.51 and won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.30. The Loganville, Ga. native swam the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay that finshed first in 1:23.01.
