The five finalists for the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2013 Player of the Year Award were announced Wednesday, and two of the finalists come from the Southeastern Conference. Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron and Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel represent the SEC on the list, and are joined by Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch, Boston College running back Andre Williams, and Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston.
McCarron has thrown for 2,676 and 26 touchdowns in 2013, helping the Crimson Tide finish the regular season with an 11-1 record. Manziel is third in the nation in total offense, accounting for 368.2 yards per game and 41 total touchdowns.
The 2013 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, who is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on Thursday, December 12 during the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN SportsCenter.
