    SEC Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week (January 7, 2014)

    SEC Male Swimmer of the Week: Carlos Omana, Florida

    •    Picked up two of the Gators’ 12 wins in a 180-118 team victory against No. 16 Florida State.
    •    Touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 9:08.26, which was eight seconds faster than teammate and the nation’s third-fastest mile swimmer Arthur Frayler.
    •    Capped off his meet with a win in the 400 individual medley, stopping the clock at 3:54.69.

    SEC Male Diver of the Week: Clark Thomas, Missouri
    •    Claimed one event win and set two new career bests at last week’s Georgia Diving Invitational.
    •    Opened the meet with a win on the 3-meter springboard with a new personal-best score of 365.65.
    •    Also placed fifth on the 1-meter after a career-high 386.75 in the prelims.
    •    Took sixth on the platform.

    SEC Male Freshman of the Week:  Mitch D’Arrigo, Florida
    •    Fresh off a silver medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the European Short Course Championships, D’Arrigo touched first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle against No. 16 Florida State.
    •    Notched his first win of the meet with a victory in the 200 free (1:38.36).
    •    Captured the 500 free in a time of 4:25.27. His 500 free best of 4:15.04 currently ranks third in the nation.

    SEC Female Swimmer of the Week: Hilda Luthersdottir, Florida
    •    Posted wins in both breaststroke events and swam the breaststroke leg of the first-place 400 medley relay in the Gators’ narrow 153-147 win against No. 23 Florida State
    •    Won the shorter of the breaststroke events (1:02.96) by out-touching FSU’s Sami Pochowski by .03.
    •    Returned to the pool to win the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:17.09.
    •    Her 200 breaststroke win and Elizabeth Beisel’s 200 backstroke win stopped a three-event win streak for FSU and returned the momentum to the Gators.
    •    Teamed with Sinead Russell, Ellese Zalewski and Natalie Hinds to win the 400 medley relay in 3:42.27. Her 1:01.84 breaststroke leg was the fastest in the field.

    SEC Female Diver of the Week: Laura Ryan, Georgia
    •    In the Georgia Diving Invitational, Ryan placed first on 3-meter and second on 1-meter.
    •    Rolled up 332.40 points on 3-meter to take top honors.
    •    Had 305.70 points to come in as the runner-up on 1-meter.
    •    Won the 6-woman, 1-meter shootout competition that did not include points.
    •    Using prelims results from the invitational as part of the Georgia vs. N.C. State meet, Ryan was first on 1-meter with a season-high 315.30 points and second on 3-meter with 321.15.
    •    Helped the Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-0 on the season and extend their UGA all-sports record with their 87th consecutive win at home.

    SEC Female Freshman of the Week: Rachel Zilinskas, Georgia
    •    In Georgia’s win over N.C. State, won one individual event, claiming the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.80.
    •    Also placed fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.88.
    •    Swam on the 200 medley relay (1:44.90) and 400 freestyle relay (3:30.81) that both came in fourth.
    •    Helped the Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-0 on the season and extend their UGA all-sports record with their 87th consecutive win at home.
