Martha Lang played in the AIAW National Championship all 4 years of her career, earning AIAW All-America honors in 1975 by finishing 3rd nationally and helping Alabama finish 7th in the program’s first season. One of the most storied amateur golfers from the state of Alabama, Lang won the 1988 USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur and was the first Alabama golfer ever selected to the Curtis Cup team, playing for the United States on the 1992 team. She captained the USA’s 1996 Curtis Cup squad. Lang was also the runner-up at the 1991 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. She has served on the USGA Women’s Committee since 1999, helping pick the Curtis Cup and World Amateur participants. Lang served as the chairwoman of the United States Golf Association Women’s Committee in 2011-12. In 2013, the Alabama Golf Association honored her with the Joe H. King Award in March – becoming only the 16th recipient ever of this award, which recognizes amateur golfers in Alabama for their contributions to the game of golf.
