    A&M Rolls Over Alabama, 63-48

COLLEGE STATION, Texas. -- Jamal Jones scored 19 points and Texas A&M used a strong second half to blow past Alabama 63-48 Thursday night at Reed Arena.

Senior guard Trevor Releford had 20 points to lead the Crimson Tide.

“Texas A&M was the better team tonight,” head coach Anthony Grant said. “They did a great job on the glass.  In the first half we had opportunities to have the lead going into the half but they were able to make enough plays to get the lead at the half. Unfortunately, in the second half their energy was better than ours.  They made enough plays to build a lead that we weren’t able to account for.”

With the 20 points, Releford is now tied for seventh on Alabama’s all-time scoring list with 1,775 points, passing Brian Williams (1996-99) and tying Erwin Dudley (2000-03). It was also his fourth-consecutive 20 point game, scoring at least 20 points in six out of the last eight games.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair between which saw four ties and six lead changes. Alabama (10-16, 4-9 SEC) went into halftime down by one, 24-23. Texas A&M (15-11, 6-7 SEC) shot 55.6 percent (15-27) from the field in the second half as they outscored the Tide 39-25. Alabama shot 42.1 percent (8-19) from the field in the second half.

Freshman forward Shannon Hale had 12 points, a team-high three assists and a career-high tying nine rebounds. Freshman center Jimmie Taylor had eight rebounds and a team-high three blocks.

Alabama will next be in action on Saturday night when it welcomes the Missouri Tigers to Coleman Coliseum. The contest is set to tipoff at 7 p.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.
