    Five SEC Athletes Selected In NWSL Draft

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Five Southeastern Conference soccer players have been chosen in the inaugural college draft of the National Women’s Soccer League, which took place Friday morning at the Indianapolis Convention Center.

    The NWSL is an eight-team league organized and administered by the U.S. Soccer Federation that will begin play in the spring of 2013. The eight founding clubs are the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC (New York/New Jersey), Seattle Reign FC, the Washington Spirit and the Western New York Flash.

    Friday’s draft consisted of four rounds with each of the eight clubs receiving one pick in each round.

    Florida’s Kathryn Williamson was the highest drafted SEC player, going to Portland with the eighth pick in the first round. Teammate Erika Tymrak was selected with the third pick in the second round to FC Kansas City. Florida’s Holly King (Washington), Georgia’s Ashley Baker (Sky Blue FC) and Florida’s Jo Dragotta (Boston) each were selected in the third round.
