      Tiffany Daniels, currently the Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Affairs at Georgia State University, has been named Associate Commissioner with the Southeastern Conference, Commissioner Mike Slive announced Friday.
    • SEC And The Baseball America Top 100

      On Tuesday, the publication Baseball America released their top 100 prospects list, a collection of the premier talent currently playing in Major League Baseball’s minor league system. The index, released at the start of spring training every year since 1990, has become widely acknowledged as the most prestigious prospect directory in the entire sport.

      And so it begins. Umpires across college baseball uttered the phrase “play ball” this weekend, signifying the start of the 2013 season. In the Southeastern Conference, 44 games were played, league teams took to the diamond for the first time this year.

Whenever a new season of baseball is set to begin, I always find myself going back to find this famous quote. Uttered by Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby, it perfectly illustrates the wait a true baseball fan endures, as the cold weather of fall replaces the sunshine filled days of summer.

    Whether it was Alabama’s Kelly Kretschman leading the nation in home runs 1998, Georgia’s Nicole Barber in 2001 setting out on a path that would make her college softball’s all-time career steals leader, Monica Abbott emerging as one of the nation’s top pitchers at Tennessee in 2004 or Florida’s Stephanie Brombacher going a perfect 20-0 in the 2008 season, freshmen have made an impact as long as the Southeastern Conference has been playing softball.  Full Story

    Instant Reaction: Frank Martin To South Carolina
    To some, Frank Martin's hiring as the next head men's basketball coach at South Carolina came as a surprise. But, the more you look at Martin and how he got to this point in his career, nothing he does should truly surprise you. The 46-year old Miami native, known for his intense style and intimidating glare, will now walk the sidelines for the Garnet and Black. Martin agreed to become the Gamecocks next head coach on Tuesday, starting a new chapter on the court for South Carolina.  Full Story

    The SEC "Numbers Game": Volume 5
    Six down, 24 to go. Even with another round of SEC weekend series’ behind us, much is still undecided. Every win at this juncture can flip the standings, with a series victory capable of vaulting teams from the scrap heap to the conference penthouse. What we do know right now is that SEC baseball teams are as talented as they’ve ever been, and that constant competition puts a few unfamiliar names at the back of the pack.   Full Story
