The WNBA opens the 2013 season on Friday, May 24 and once again the league looks like the SEC All-Stars.

Kristy Curry has agreed to become the next head women’s basketball coach at The University of Alabama. More information, including details on an introductory press conference, will be released at a later date.

The Southeastern Conference and ESPN have signed a 20-year agreement through 2034 to create and operate a multiplatform network, which will launch in August 2014, it was announced today by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive and ESPN President John Skipper.

A total of seven SEC women’s basketball players were taken in the 2013 WNBA draft, as the world’s top female basketball prospects were selected live on prime time television for the first time in the league’s 17-year history. The first round saw Texas A&M’s Kelsey Bone taken as the 5th overall selection by the New York Liberty. The SEC has had at least one player taken in the first round of the WNBA Draft since its inception in 1997.

South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2013, the organization announced at a press conference in Atlanta today. Staley is part of a 12-member class that will be enshrined on Sun., Sept. 8, in Springfield, Mass.
