BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (August 11, 2011) – Leslie Claybrook, Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Rice University for the last four years, has been named Assistant Commissioner in the Southeastern Conference office, SEC Commissioner Mike Slive announced today.
Claybrook will handle championship operations and sports administration for women’s basketball, soccer and softball.
“We are extremely pleased to have someone of Leslie’s experience, knowledge and talents to assist our championship operations,” said Slive. “Her extensive background and familiarity with the league, especially in women’s basketball, will be a great addition to both our office and our institutions.”
At Rice, Claybrook served as sport administrator for women’s basketball, men’s golf, women’s swimming, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track/cross country and volleyball. Previously, she oversaw all 16 sports with regards to student-athlete services and welfare.
Claybrook is a member of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee, chair of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee and previously was Conference USA’s representative to the NCAA Legislative Council and Championships and Competition Committee. She has also served as a women’s basketball game official in NCAA, WNBA and international competition, including the 2007 Pan American Games.
“I am excited to get back to the Southeastern Conference, where I was a student-athlete and got my start in athletics administration,” said Claybrook. “I look forward to working in the nation’s premier conference with the league’s coaches, administrators and student-athletes.”
A 1994 graduate of the University of Alabama, she was a four-year letterwinner for the Crimson Tide women’s basketball squad, earning SEC Academic Honor Roll status three times. Following stints as an assistant coach at Mercer, where she earned her master’s degree, and Troy State, Claybrook began her administrative career as a Compliance Assistant in the SEC office from 1997-99.
She moved from the SEC office to Birmingham-Southern College in September 1999. She began as the athletics department Compliance Officer and was promoted to Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Adminstrator in May 2000, where she stayed until July 2006.
Claybrook moved to Samford University in July 2006 where she served as Associate Athletics Director, directing the Bulldogs’ compliance efforts and serving as sport administrator for 11 sports, including women’s basketball, soccer and softball. She moved to Rice University the following year, where she is in her current position.
Claybrook is married to Perry Robinson, a former collegiate and scholastic volleyball coach. The couple has a daughter, Lillian Robinson.
