    McWhorter And Davis Nominees: Alabama

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala., March 20 – Swimmer Kyle Weeks and golfer Brooke Pancake have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship and track and field / cross country athletes Nathan Corder and Leigh Gilmore have been nominated for the Brad Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of Alabama.
                   
    The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes. 
               
    The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship was named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis.  Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006.  He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.

    The Southeastern Conference will name the 2012 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on April 6 in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day.  The Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship winners will be announced on April 5.

    Highlights of the Crimson Tide’s nominees include:

    Kyle Weeks, Swimming & Diving (Male McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Nominee)
    •    Will earn B.S. degree in Commerce and Business Administration in May 2012
    •    Has earned a cumulative 4.00 grade point average during college career
    •    Third-team Capital One Academic All-America, 2011
    •    Earned Presidential Scholarship all four years at Alabama
    •    Member of President’s List and SEC Academic Honor Roll 
    •    UA Computer-Based Honors Outstanding Student-Athlete Award, 2010
    •    Earned Alabama Swimming Bob Dimick Most Scholastic Award for having highest GPA on squad
    •    Has served as President of UA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for two years, 2010-12
    •    Served an internship with Apple, Inc. in 2011 and member of Culverhouse Investment Management Group, 2010-12
    •    Participated in Halloween Extravaganza, Project Angel Tree, Habitat for Humanity, SEC Together We Can Food Drive and Caps for the Cure (breast cancer awareness), Laps for CF
    •    Competed in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle at SEC Championships
    •    Participated in the U.S. Open and USA National Championships
    •    The San Diego, Calif. native is the son of Dan and Toni Weeks.

    Brooke Pancake, Golf (Female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Nominee)
    •    Will earn B.S. degree in Commerce and Business Administration in May 2012
    •    Has earned a cumulative 4.00 grade point average during college career
    •    First-team Capital One Academic All-America, 2011
    •    Recipient of NCAA Elite 88 Award for women’s golf, 2010 (awarded to student-athlete by NCAA with highest cumulative GPA participating at NCAA Championship)
    •    Recipient of Edith Cummings Munson Award, 2011 (awarded to student-athlete with highest GPA among first-team All-Americans)
    •    Two-time, SEC Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, 2010-11
    •    Member of SEC Academic Honor Roll and named National Golf Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete as a freshman, sophomore and junior
    •    Member of Omicron Delta Kappa, Beta Gamma Sigma, Sigma Alpha Lambda, Lambda Sigma, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma and Golden Key National Honor Societies.
    •    Member of Dean’s List and President’s List every semester at Alabama
    •    First-team National Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek All-America, 2011
    •    Member of the 2012 USA Curtis Cup Amateur Team
    •    Semifinalist in the 2011 U.S. Amateur Open
    •    Volunteers with First Tee Golf Organization, teaching kids to play golf, Project Angel Tree, Soles4Souls, the Rise School and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
    •    The Chattanooga, Tenn. Native is the daughter of Debbie Pancake

    Nathan Corder, Track & Field / Cross Country (Male Davis Community Service Nominee)
    •    Will earn a B.S. degree in Mathematics in May 2012
    •    Has earned a cumulative 4.00 grade point average during college career
    •    Volunteered with Convoy of Hope, serving as distribution coordinator for operations in Tuscaloosa following April 27, 2011 tornado
    •    Earned WVTM-TV Alabama13 “Making a Difference Award”, 2011
    •    Earned UA’s Community Service Award, 2009-11, and member of SEC Community Service Team for track & field/cross country, 2011
    •    Coordinated a Soles4Souls shoe drive to collect shoes to be distributed to those worldwide in need
    •    Vice-President of UA’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, 2011, and secretary-treasurer, 2009-10
    •    Rhodes Scholar finalist, 2011
    •    Recipient of NCAA Elite 88 Award for cross country, 2010
    •    First-team Capital One Academic All-America, 2011
    •    Third-team Capital One Academic All-America, 2010

    Leigh Gilmore, Track & Field / Cross Country (Female Davis Community Service Nominee)
    •    Will earn a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in May 2012
    •    Has earned a cumulative 4.00 grade point average during college career
    •    Has volunteered with Athletes in Action, Big Sister Little Sister, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has served as a camp counselor and traveled to Haiti to help orphanage and an underprivileged school.
    •    Member of National Society of Collegiate Scholars, 2009-12
    •    Member of SEC Academic Honor Roll, UA’s Presidents List and Honors Program
    •    Member of Phi Eta Sigma and Lambda Sigma Honor Societies
    •    Capstone Engineering Society Department of Civil Engineering Most Outstanding Senior, 2012
    •    Four-year letterwinner and starter and top distance runner for squad in 2010-11
